About the Steering Committee
Role of the Steering Committee
The role of the steering committee (SC) includes the following:
-
Setting the long-term direction of the QCTiP conference.
-
Deciding on the location of the next event.
-
Appointing the PC Chair at least six months in advance of the next event.
-
Appointing a small number of invited speakers.
-
Advising on policies relating to paper submission rules.
-
Approving the structure of the schedule and programme of the next event.
The SC should also serve as an oversight body, overseeing the work of the local organisers and advising on the dates and structure of the programme of the next QCTiP event.
Members of the SC
The SC consists of approximately six members. A new SC, including a new SC Chair, is appointed each year within two months of the most recent QCTiP event. The SC typically includes the local organisers of the previous three QCTiP conferences and the local organiser(s) of the next QCTiP event. It is chaired by one of the local organisers of the most recent previous event.
SC members are normally expected to serve for four years.
Appointing leadership for future events
At each QCTiP event, the SC invites members of the community to submit bids to host the next QCTiP conference. A bid should indicate the proposed venue and name the proposed lead organiser(s).
The newly appointed SC then considers these bids, approves the location of the next QCTiP conference, and appoints the local organisers. Typically starting in the summer, but at least six months in advance of the next conference, the SC also selects the Chair of the Programme Committee for the next QCTiP conference. The SC additionally invites a small number of invited speakers. These speakers should normally be selected to highlight the best recent research, although some may also be invited to give broader perspective or survey talks.
The SC may additionally advise the Programme Committee Chair on policies relating to paper submission rules, but otherwise gives the PC freedom in setting the conference programme. The SC may also advise the local organisers on the structure of the schedule and programme for the next event before approving it.
